Anyone who knows me knows that I love going on adventures and discovering new places, partly for the thrill and partly because I love photography. If you and your friends are up for an adventure, here are some places in the greater Boston area to check out this weekend!
1. Abandoned train tunnel
Located in Clinton near the Wachusett Dam, this train tunnel is not very hard to find at all. When located, walking up to the tunnel you feel amazed. The tunnel is roughly .2 miles long, and very dark, so bring more than the flashlight on your cell phone. Depending on the time of year you visit, a pair of rain boots is suggested.
Inside, the tunnel is filled with puddles and debris from the ceiling of the tunnel itself. If you drive further down the street and look into the water where the dam is located, you’ll see short pillars sticking out from the water. These pillars were actually part of the train tracks when it was running! The outside of the tunnel is also great for photo opportunities.
2. The Lawn on D
Located on D street in Boston, there are moon shaped circle swings that light up at night. It's truly amazing to see in person and also a lot of fun. This place is a perfect photo spot and definitely stress relieving and relaxing. The best time to go to this location is at night. During the day the swings are just as beautiful, but at night, the swings glow blue and purple. The colors change as you swing but if you hold the swing still in one spot, it’ll stay one of the two colors!
3. The Boston Lock Bridge
Located on Massachusetts Avenue by Boylston Street, Boston has recreated the famous bridge in France by putting locks on it. Visiting it gives you a feeling of overwhelming happiness.
4. Spider Gates Cemetery
Located near Worcester airport, this old cemetery has some amazing (and creepy) history. Spider Gates is known for being haunted and is watched by the police. The cemetery is only open from dusk to dawn, and is hard to locate. No parking is allowed near the dirt path that leads to the cemetery, so the best way to visit is to be dropped off. Visiting the cemetery gives an eerie vibe but the history overpowers this!
5. Hidden Bodega
In Boston, there is a hidden shoe and clothing store behind a Snapple door! This store sticks out because the windows are covered with random articles such as colored jars, so that you can’t see inside when someone goes through the door. When you walk, in you can easily see the store doesn’t have much to offer, but there is a Snapple machine. If you walk up to the machine, it slides open and you can walk into the actual store. Taking pictures of the door is prohibited, but some people have gotten away with it!
With all this information I wish you the best in exploring!
