The period between Christmas Break and Spring Break can become monotonous, espeically when it comes to music. You become reliant on hearing whatever is on the radio, which typically ruins the song from the frequencey it is being played. What better way to spice up vacation than adding a few new songs to your playlist? Sometimes the catchiest songs are the ones you stumble upon by chance. Being the Austinite that I am, Indie and Folk music are staples for me. Here are some groups that are sure to spruce up the Indie and Folk section of your iTunes library.
1. Milky Chance
I've been obsessed with Milky Chance for years. They are a German folk duo, with reggae and electronic influences. Some of my personal favorites include Stolen Dance, Running, and Flashed Junk Minds.
2. The Veils
The Veils are an indie/alternative band that came out of London. I have had their song Sit Down by the Fire on repeat for months now.
3. First Aid Kit
A Swedish folk duo, First Aid Kit is a must hear. Check out My Silver Lining, Emmylou, and Walk Unafraid.
4. Arctic Monkeys
Although Arctic Monkeys have been prominent in the music scene for a decent period of time, people seem to forget just how great they truly are. This indie rock band, based out of the UK, will have you humming their songs for hours. If you have not heard them before, listen to R U Mine?, Knee Socks, and A Certain Romance.
5. Dry the River
I save the best for last-- Dry the River is my favorite music group of all time. Based out of London, the indie folk band has yet to disappoint. I would highly recommend Hammer, The Chambers and the Valves, and Animal Skins.
