It's officially October, which means Halloween is just around the corner! Although Halloween isn't one of my favorite holidays, I do love the feeling it gives me as it approaches. Whenever I walk through aisles at the stores and see costumes, pumpkins and bags of candy, I get excited because I love the history behind the holiday. The Celts back then believed that Halloween was when the line between the worlds of the living and the dead would be blurred and the ghosts of the dead would return to the earth to wreak havoc. I love all things weird and scary so the story behind Halloween is what makes me like it, but it's always nice to go trick-or-treating to get some candy. If you can't wait for the line to be blurred and the dead to come out on Halloween, then you can visit these haunted places in Los Angeles to see if you can spot some ghosts wandering around, waiting to be seen.
1. Cecil Hotel
This inspiration for the fifth season of "American Horror Story" is said to have checked in notorious murderers and maniacs along with multiple people who have committed suicide on the premises. One of the most haunting deaths to come from the hotel is the mysterious death of Elisa Lam who was found dead inside a water tower on the roof of the hotel. Her body wasn't discovered until two weeks after her death when guests began to complain about the water in the hotel. You can also watch the unsettling footage of Elisa Lam inside an elevator right before she died.
2. Queen Mary
This ship permanently docked in Long Beach is said to be home to 150 known spirits and is supposed to be one of the most haunted places in the world. There have been 49 reported deaths on the ship and people have been said to see spirits walking about the ship. The engine room is the hub of the activity and the pools that are no longer in use (by the living that is) are where people have seen women dressed in swimsuits splashing around as well as wet footprints leading to the dressing rooms. One spirit that is supposed to be the most prevalent by the pool is of a little girl named Jackie who drowned there. People have reported hearing laughs and the sounds of her voice there.
3. Linda Vista Community Hospital
As much as I love scary things you cannot pay me enough to walk inside this old hospital. Before it received a makeover to become affordable housing for seniors (I don't know why someone would do this), Linda Vista was, and probably still is, plagued with malevolent spirits. The most notorious room known for its hauntings is room 323, which is said have been the home of a demon. Since the hospital was also a mental institution, the room housed a dangerous patient and some people have claimed to have heard growls in the room along with having been physically assaulted by the creature inside the room.
4. "American Horror Story" Mansion
Although the murders in the first season of the anthology series did not happen here, there have been reports of psychics experiencing strange occurrences when they enter the house. People have also said they've seen ghosts and spirits roaming the grounds, but what actually happened on the premises still remains a mystery.
5. "The Entity" House
Back in 1974, Doris Bither sought the help of paranormal investigators because she believed her house was haunted. She claimed these entities were violent because they would throw things across the room and physically attack her. When the investigators went to check out the house, the cabinet doors of the kitchen flung open and pots and pans fell without anyone touching them. Doris eventually fled from the house, but the spirits were said to have followed her and her family. The events that occurred here inspired the film "The Entity."
