So if you haven’t heard of Hamilton, you’ve probably been living under a rock since 2015. If for some reason you still don’t know what I’m talking about, here are some songs to introduce you:
1 - Alexander Hamilton
“…Bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a Scottsman….” This is pretty much the one song that will tell you everything you need to know about Hamilton (if American History didn't tell you enough). It’s the opening song of the production that will cover his background and set the stage for what’s in store.
2 - The Schuyler Sisters
“Werk!” This is yet another song that will introduce the audience to the three Schuyler sisters, Angelica, Eliza, and Peggy. This is the first song on the soundtrack (since I don’t have the privilege or money to see it in person) that really got my feet moving because of its succession of high beats and riffs.
3 - Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down)
“And so the American experiment begins….” This song will LITERALLY blow you away. It’s my personal favorite off of the soundtrack because it sums up the colonies’ first real victory (and it’s also super long).
4 - What Comes Next
“Awesome. Wow.” King George III (a.k.a. Jonathan Groff) literally adds so much to the musical. His quirky character brings comedic relief and his cute face seals the deal.
5 - The Room Where It Happens
“We dream of a brand new start, but we dream in the dark for the most part….” Aaron Burr’s struggles are brought to light in this song that has a dark and evil ambience. But this song will definitely make one feel as though they’re really in the room where it happens (a.k.a. the Richard Rodgers Theatre).
