Whether it’s humorous, controversial, or just all around news worthy, you are sure to see one of the trending Twitter topics from this past year on Halloween night. What better way to ignite conversations with fellow Halloween party goers than dressing up as one of these eccentric costume ideas:

1. Harambe

It was a sad day in May 2016 when a three year old boy fell into a gorilla enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo. In efforts by zoo officials to protect the boy, Harambe, a 17 year old Western Iowland gorilla, was shot and killed that day. This unfortunate incident sparked international backlash and debate over the decision to kill this revered primate. After endless investigations of the many viral cell phone videos of the scene, it was eventually ruled that there could have been no better outcome for either party. America is a strange place though and Harambe became the subject of countless parodies and memes. To this day you can still hear random Harambe chants at various sporting events and gatherings. Harambe will no doubt make many appearances on Halloween night.

2. Kenneth Bone

The second presidential debate of 2016 brought about a different kind of public figure no one could have foreseen. On the morning of the debate, a private citizen named Kenneth Bone had a "wardrobe malfunction”. The seat of Ken’s beautiful olive suit that he had planned to wear on national television was ripped. This left Ken Bone with no other option than to resort to his red sweater, normally reserved to display Christmas spirit at the holidays. The reason for his overnight internet fame is still unclear, and there are already reports of Target selling out of the infamous red sweater. Be on the lookout for a few Ken Bone impersonators this October!

3. Donald Trump

Unfortunately you cannot have a list of media centric topics this year without making mention of Donald Trump. The orange skinned, puffy blonde toupee wearing, reality TV star is running for president on the Republican party ticket. The Donald makes certain that his name will never leave our conciousness. Whether it’s his ridiculous Twitter blunders, the countless allegations from Trump business employees, or his endless inappropriate remarks towards various minority groups, Donald Trump is sure to be a headline costume this Halloween.

4. Harley Quinn

The female pop culture lightning rod of comic books straight from the summer box office smash, Suicide Squad, is a trendy Halloween costume idea this year. Harley Quinn is on the forefront of how the role of female characters in comics has changed. She may be a little rough around the edges but the character is certainly a fun and daring personality to portray this season.

5. Pokemon Go Trainer

The number of Google searches for the Niantic developed, location based, augmented reality game, Pokemon Go, surged in July 2016 immediately after it was released in the United States. On any given day you could see hordes of people, with their smart phones outstretched, feverishly trying to capture as many Pokemon as possible. The world of Pokemon had an immense revival no one saw coming. Your first step in the game is to create your Pokemon avatar, also known as the Pokemon trainer. These trainers have specific outfits in the game and they will be instantly recognized by most partiers this Halloween.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
