1. Drink a BIG glass of water.

Water is and will (probably) always be the most needed resource for the human body. After going 6-8 hours without any, it's no surprise that you need to replenish. Drinking a glass of water immediately after waking up in the morning will give your body what it needs and lower your chances of being tired and dehydrated later in the day.

2. Go for a run.

Running in the morning can be an excellent way to wake up both your body and your mind with endorphins. After a nice half-hour run and a shower, there's little chance you are going to be feeling sluggish and lethargic when you get to school, work, etc. Plus, you can go through the rest of your day with the satisfaction of knowing you've already worked out and have one victory under your productivity belt.

3. Drink a cup of coffee and read a good book.

I know some people don't drink coffee, and that's okay; tea or hot cocoa would do the trick as well (although you will miss out on the caffeine buzz...) This method is a simple and relaxing way to ease yourself into the day. I find that the mixture of the caffeine in the coffee and getting lost in a book does wonders for getting my mind turned on and energetic. Just be careful not to delve into something that's a bit dull or dry or you may find yourself falling right back asleep.

4. Cuddle your significant other or your pet.

This is just a really easy way to start your day on a positive note. Showing love and affection to others generally brings love and affection back to us. We are also more likely to love and nurture ourselves if we do so for others, so why not start that cycle first thing in the morning?

5. Spend some time outside.

Whether you're going to mow the lawn, work in the garden, or simply stare at a tree for 10 to 20 minutes. Being outside in the fresh air excites the senses and pulls you away from the strong, persistent grip of sleepiness. There's just something about being outside and breathing the nice fresh air that opens up and excites your mind.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
