5 Great Things About Kenosha
Since going to college three hours away, I have missed a few things back home. It’s one of those moments when you realize that maybe your hometown wasn't as bad as you thought and when thinking back about Kenosha, there are definitely things that stick out to me that I definitely miss. The little things that another town doesn't have or is more of an inconvenience really stands out when you're use to it being the other way around.
1. The Lake
The lake is definitely something you grow to appreciate. At first, you don't understand the perks of it since the water is really gross, but eventually you realize the amazing advantages. It’s the perfect place to watch the sunset/sunrise, get a nice tan, and even take a walk looking for sea glass. Not to mention it’s right next to downtown which is perfect for a nice ice cream cool down treat at Scoops or Sandy’s Popper.
2. Location
Kenosha is in the middle between Milwaukee and Chicago. This means double the festivals, sight seeing trips, and food extravaganzas. I admire how close it is to Illinois while still avoiding the Illinois tax. If you don't want to take the train, the drive is totally doable. We have the convenience of being close to two big cities without the traffic, and its so convenient when going to concerts and chances are someone will perform in one of the two, if not both.
4. The Outlet Mall
Okay. So technically this one is in Pleasant Prairie, but they’re so close to each other that it pretty much counts. Not only does the mall provide endless amounts of jobs, but it also has an awesome variety of stores. I have no idea how people don't have a mall in their town. The thought of having to drive an hour to get all your clothes you need or to just look around baffles me.
5. Jerry Smith’s Pumpkin Farm
I saved the best for last, considering that the fall season has begun. If you’ve ever lived in Kenosha over the fall, you've heard about Jerry Smith’s Pumpkin Farm. It is the definition of fall with pumpkin picking, corn maze, and classic cookies—you have not taken advantage of fall until you try one. Last year was my first trip, and I realized what I was missing out on. The amazing sugar and chocolate chip cookies scream fall with orange frosting and heavily taste.
I love my college town dearly, but the town that I grew up in will always have a special place in my heart. Its funny how the littlest things can become such a tradition and how certain things turn into an obvious pastime. I think anyone who has live in Kenosha can agree that it wouldn't be the amazing, fun place it is without these five great things.
