While some people feel that the Christmas season is simply over-rated, even as I get older I cannot seem to fathom that belief. No matter my age I still feel myself excitedly anticpating the Christmas season as it begins to approach. While other parts of the year are great, it seems like no matter what Christmas time continues to be my favorite. However, with all of the hustle and bustle of everyday life, sometimes it can be hard to get into that jingly Christmas spirit. Just in case you're one of those people who are just not feeling it this year, here are five awesome things about the Christmas season!

1. The decorations

From trees to lights to winter items galore, the Christmas seasons is never lacking in the decoration department. Whether you prefer putting up your own decorations or just driving around the neighborhood checking out others decor, you can't deny that it's an easy way to get yourself in the Christmas spirit.

2. The music

Okay, I know some of it can get a bit tedious after a while but even the grinchiest of people can't deny that even they sometimes find themselves bopping along to some Christmas tunes. From catchy classics to new age songs and even remakes of the oldies, Holiday music can be surprisingly diverse and definitely has a little something for everybody.

3. The presents

I know, I know we all like to say it's not about the presents but who can resist a holiday where they know they're going to get some new awesome goodies? Even if you're not the biggest fan of the holiday season, it's okay to admit that at the very least you're looking forward to what may be waiting under the tree for you on Christmas Day.

4. The food

Ah yes, nothing says the holidays quite like a delcious home cooked meal. Whether you're traveling home to enjoy the foods of your childhood or you're the providing the meal, there is no doubt that there is going to be an abundance of delicious foods on your plate this holiday season. Break out those stretchy pants, put that diet off for one more day and dig in!

5. The giving spirit

Okay, I know it sounds corny but when you think about it, this is one thing that is just so unique and nice to this time of year. While of course we would love for people to be perfectly nice and giving all year round it is still nice to see the amount of positivite news and uplifting stories that seem to come up at this time of year. From giving presents to family, to donating to those less fortunate than us and helping out those in our lives it seems like this time of year is great for giving us that desire to give to others.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
