5 Great Aspects Of Growing Up In The 90s

The 90s are back! Well no, not really. However it seems that most of the styles of the 90s TV shows are being revamped and brought into our modern times. We have all seen the Twitter trends, "You know you're a 90s baby if..." or "Only 90s kids will understand..." Why is that? Aside from the fact that the 90s were time of pure awesomeness, it was also a great time of change. So in honor of this new, not-so-newfound craze "the 90s," here are five great things about growing up in the 90s!

1. The music.

The 90s were known for an array of music from grunge and pop to hip-hop and rap. MTV, before it consisted of bad reality shows and stories of people getting catfished, it actually played music. Bands like 311, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Backstreet Boys, and The Spice Girls redefined what music was and how fans reacted to music.

2. The TV shows.

There was nothing like the television shows from the 90s. From Nickelodeon's "Rugrats" and "Doug," Disney channel original movies, to sitcoms like "Friends," it seemed like there was no better time for television than in the 90s. The shows of the 90s reminded us to have fun, enjoy our youth, and that there is something powerful about sending important messages through television.

3. The clothes.

The baggy style of the 90s clothes made it iconic. You couldn't decide whether your style fit more of a DJ Tanner type of look or Cher's from "Clueless." It was a time where denim outfits were not only acceptable to wear, but encouraged and admired. Whether it was baggy shirts, baggy pants or a combination of the two, you could never go wrong.

4. The TV game shows.

There was nothing more exciting than turning on the TV and watching "Guts," "Double Dare 2000," or even "Legends of the Hidden Temple." Kids from all over wanted to be on these gameshows participating in the games. You are lying if you didn't practice the trivia while the contestants were playing. These gameshows made any kid feel like they could be the one to win the awesome prizes (like the newest bike or game boy that was available at the time).

5. The treats.

Snack time was never better than when you would whip out a Wonderball (you 90s kids know what I'm talking about), or a pack of Dunkaroos (the choice of chocolate or vanilla was very serious and could make or break friendships). Not only did you have delicious treats to munch on, but all of a sudden everyone wanted to be your friend.

If you were lucky enough to live in the 90s, you got to experience some pretty awesome trends.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
