5 Good Things About Long-Distance Relationships

There's nothing easy about long-distance relationships. They take effort, commitment, and a lot of love. Sometimes long distance relationships don't work out. But it's not because couples don't try. Long distance relationships are extremely difficult. But there aren't many good things in life that are easy.

1. Being long-distance tests how strong your relationship is.

It requires tons of commitment. If your partner struggles with long-distance or even refuses to do it, this can show just how committed they really are. If it doesn't work out, it's probably for the best. If they aren't willing to try long-distance, it could be a clue that maybe that person isn't right for you.

2. Seeing them after a long time is the best feeling in the world.

Being able to see your partner in person for the first time in a while is almost indescribable. When you are used to having something, it's easy to take it for granted. But when it's taken away, you quickly realize how important it is to you.

3. Everything feels normal when you get to see them again.

It's almost like nothing has changed. Even though you haven't seen your partner in weeks or even months, you can talk for five minutes and feel like you were with them just yesterday.

4. Phone conversations are much more meaningful.

When you live a mile away from your significant other, a phone call or a text usually doesn't send a flurry of butterflies through your stomach. But when you live a whole state or country away and your phone lights up with their name on the screen, it's hard to not smile. It's probably the most important part of your day. You can talk about nothing and it still makes you happy.

5. Long-distance relationships prove how much you care for one another.

Whether you're in a long-distance relationship because you're in college or your family moved, staying together shows that you respect and encourage each other's dreams. Even though you may be thousands of miles apart, you're still rooting for your partner because you want them to live out their goals and be happy. It shows that you're selfless and that you truly care about each other.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way.
