For rappers, there are a lot of stereotypes that come with the mic and the tour bus, when they start their career. They're called materialistic, selfish, and negative role models for songs. While being a star, it seems all of the negative will get publicity right away while the good is ignored. But there's more than you'd think when you look into the charities and acts of kindness in the rap community, and here are some of the most unnoticed.
1. Akon brings electricity to 600 million in Africa.
Akon's project began in 2014 and has operations in 14 African countries. Akon Lighting Africa is projected to extend its operation to 11 more countries and many others in the future.
2. Chief Keef's hologram benefit concert in Indiana.
Chief Keef's attempt to perform a benefit concert for a 13-month-old who was hit by a car during a police chase lasted four minutes before it was shut down for supposed safety issues. Keef was not allowed to perform in the area in person due to legal issues, so his hologram was projected instead. Talk about going above and beyond.
3. Chance the Rapper producing jobs for the homeless.
Warmest Winter 2016 is a project co-created to hire only the homeless to make coats for the homeless that are waterproof, heat-preserving, and can also be slept in as a sleeping bag.
4. Gucci Mane speaking for career day.
Big Guwop spoke to Atlanta's Crawford Long middle school for career day. He gave his expertise on the industry and the work that goes into being a rapper and performing.
5. Chief Keef comforts fan crying from excitement.
A fan was so overwhelmed meeting Keef, and instead of seeing this as an opportunity to boost his ego a bit more, he told the fan he can be someone greater than Keef one day, alluding to the fact that although he is a rapper with riches and fame, the fan can be something even Keef wishes to be.
