Now that it's finally summer, you have a lot more free time and, with that, time to read. During the school year it can be hard to find time to read, so the summer is the perfect time for it. Books are perfect for reading at home, on the plane, or even at the beach this summer (what's better than getting a tan while reading?). Whether you're looking for a romance, sci-fi or classic, they're all on this list. Here are five good books to read this summer.
1. "The Art of Racing in the Rain"
This book is written from the point of view of a dog. The dog, Enzo, has an owner who is a race car driver. This book shows how we need dogs as much as they need us.
2. "Me Before You"
Set in small town England, this novel follows the unlikely romance between a quadriplegic and a girl who makes him discover the beauty of life. Just have some tissues ready. Read the novel before the movie hits theaters on June 3rd.
3. "The Giver"
Another book that has been made into a movie, "The Giver" is set in a society where there are no emotions, including pain and suffering. When Jonas is chosen to be the Receiver of Memory, he has no idea what he is in for. He soon discovers what life was like before, with emotions, pain, and beauty. This is one of the best books I've ever read.
4. "The Road"
"The Road" takes place in a post-apocalyptic world and tells the story of a father and son's journey through the desolate, abandoned landscape. Cormac McCarthy does a great job of showing the bond between father and son, and this book will keep you reading for hours on end.
5. "The Great Gatsby"
While you've probably all seen the movie with Leo, this is still a great read. Taking place in Long Island in the 1920's, this book tells the story of Daisy Buchanan and Jay Gatsby. Even though you might've had to read it for school, it's different reading a classic like this for fun. F. Scott Fitzgerald's writing style and insight into the characters' minds will have you hooked.
So, hopefully one or more of these books caught your attention, and you'll want to read more this summer. Happy reading!
