There is nothing wrong with being single, especially on Valentine’s Day. With all the corny gift guide videos and love quotes circling around, you may feel that you are missing out on something so spectacular. I believe Valentine’s Day is ridiculous. It is one day out of the entire year set for couples to show love by giving generic gifts such as flowers, bouquets, teddy bears, and chocolate, which shows nothing of your love. These types of gifts on one day are not what a relationship is about. Your love should be constant all throughout the year and Valentine’s Day should not be a reminder to gift your significant other.

Well in case you are feeling down about not having a date or a significant other, here are some things to gift yourself as a reminder of the importance of loving yourself. Take this day as a reminder that in order to love others, one must love themselves.

1. Plan a date…just for you

This is probably something we do all the time but we don’t realize. Think of it as another day you feel lazy and don’t feel like going anywhere or doing nothing. In today’s society, we are busy with so much such as school, family, clubs, organizations, jobs that we don’t get time for ourselves. Spend your Valentine’s Day just as you would spend any other Friday night home from work. Mind yourself that you are the same Oreo loving, Netflix binge-watcher who deserves a little me time.

2. Reward yourself with your favorite food or drink

For me personally, nothing makes me happier than a double chocolaty chip frappuccino from Starbucks. It will forever be my one love. I mean it though. I have never tried anything else other than this. Now, that’s loyalty.

3. Do something that makes you happy

This can be a hobby of yours or a talent you have. If volunteering is something you like to do, don’t forget to spread the love by helping others on this day as well.

4. Show love to your family

Remember the strong relationships you already have in your home. Sometimes we forget that what’s important is right in front of us. If you don’t have a significant other, then it is not meant for you at the moment. What you have is your family and friends. Plan a game night with your entire family, siblings or friends.

5. Buy yourself Chocolate

Chances are, over the weekend, you will end up in some type of convenient or grocery store finding yourself surrounded with aisles and aisles filled with your favorite chocolates. Show yourself some love and pick up some peanut butter cups! I love chocolate oh so much, so spending money on Ferrero Rochers will never be a waste to me.

These are some things you can do to show love for yourself and others important to you. The best part is that you will receive the best gifts if you gift yourself because who knows you better than you!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
