I've been here for one week and there has been a surge of emotions and feelings that I've encountered.

1. Realizing how real "Machismo" is.

In Ecuador and many other parts of the world, there's this thing called "Machismo". Machismo is when the culture shows that men believe they are better than women. In America, it's more institutionalized. Here, though there are many women in political roles in Ecuador, the "normal women" cooks, cleans, and stays at home. Catcalling and groping are real, though I luckily haven't experienced the later.

2. Tasting the food.

Normally, I'm an extremely picky eater. Here, I have tried everything that has been given to me and have loved most of it. It's amazing how tasty the food is here and even more amazing that me, the pickiest eater in the world, likes it.

3. Dying from altitude sickness.

Luckily, I haven't had it as bad as others, but the fatigue and the headaches have been rough. Luckily, I'm pretty much acclimated and the headaches have stopped though I am still pretty tired. It was a rough obstacle to overcome.

4. Getting used to the heat.

Though Quito's temperature isn't extremely hot, it is on the equator and while the elevation takes away some of the heat, the beating sun adds to it immensely. I'm just grateful that everyone has pit stains here.

5. Realizing the adventure has just begun.

Saying "see you in May" to all of my friends was tough, but now that I'm here, the semester has just begun and I'm excited to see what new challenges and adventures the next 5 months will bring me!

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. 11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…
