The world of Funko Pops have taken over. Everywhere you look (cue the Full House theme song?), there's a little adorable vinyl figure staring right into your eye holes saying, "Buy me!" Even the biggest non supporters of the brand have probably bought at least one, because there's a figure out there that represents one of their favorite characters in one of their favorite movies, tv shows, or video games.
However, there are still many licenses that Funko has not been able to tap into yet, even though you would think they have a major hold on plenty more than they need. There's no possible way that your Funko Pop desires are going to be listed here, but you will agree that at least one idea brought up is going to be something you wish existed. So let's explore the uncharted territory of Funko Pops, and tell them what we want to see!
1. Nintendo
There has been a slew of really great video game Funko Pops released over the years, and old school gaming has been represented respectfully. Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Sonic, and Mega Man have all been formed into Funko, but there's one glaring omission among the throwbacks: Mario. Nintendo hasn't budged yet on the flagship character getting his own Pop, but hopefully they will buckle in due time and the super princess saver can join the ranks of his video game brethren. On a further note, throw Luigi, Link, Samus, Little Mac, and the rest of the Nintendo crew in for good measure. Without a doubt, those things will sell like hotcakes, especially with children being raised in the house of Super Smash Bros.
2. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
This is a far departure from number 1 as far as being kid friendly, but this list is going to feature stuff from all over the entertainment world, so just roll with it. Anyway, the fact that Danny Devito hasn't been made into a Funko Pop yet is a downright disgrace, but Funko can fix that by making figures out of the foul five. This show has accumulated so many fans over the years and it goes without saying that Always Sunny figures would be plucked off the shelves. Hot Topic Exclusive Green Man? Sounds good to me!
3. The World of Dr. Seuss
No matter the license, whether it be G rated or R rated, Funko Pops always come off looking adorable. Could you imagine the illustrations of Theodore Seuss Geisel aka Dr. Seuss being put into Pop figures? They would be amazingly adorable. Cat in the Hat, The Lorax, and so many others would look awesome on a bookshelf or serving as desk decor for teachers who need a little visual amusement every so often. Why don’t we have them yet? Hop on those pops, Funko!
4. Terminator
One of the most popular long time cinematic franchises hasn’t been made into a Funko Pop series yet, and there’s something wrong about that. While many would argue that there hasn’t been a solid terminator film since Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Funko could still tap into any of the films for reference, although, to be on the safe side, they should probably stick to anything before Terminator 3. Arnold alternatives, Sarah Connor, the Terminator on the motorcycle...the possibilities are out there.
5. NBC Comedies
It would be easy to talk about all the different shows that are going to be mentioned in their own listing, but it’s way easier to bunch together some the great comedies that have been on the peacock network. The 6 main characters of Friends finally got their due, but it would be amazing to see Funko create figurines based on shows like Seinfield, Scrubs, Parks and Rec, The Office, and pushing it a little bit further, having a never ending line of figures based on popular skits on Saturday Night Live. If any of these ideas come to light, we will not be worthy.
