5 Fun Facts About Simone Biles

Simone is the best gymnast in the world. Hands down, no one is better than her. She is more than proving herself at the Olympics to why she is deserving of the title of the best gymnast in the world. With help bringing the gold home to the U.S. in the team competition and in the all around. Simone is truly someone to watch out for, no matter what. Yet with all that being said I think we forget that she is also a young bubbly girl! Here are some fun facts about her!

1. She's the shortest out of all 555 U.S. Olympic athletes in Rio.

Alright, this has to be one of my favorite facts. With only being a staggering 4’9”, Simone gets to take home the “gold” in being the shortest athlete to compete for the U.S. Which in my mind is the best thing ever!

2. Her younger sister Adria is a gymnast too.

Being a gymnast must run in the family! This is cool because not only does her sister get to compete alongside, but she can gain some tips from the best gymnast in the world! Which in my opinion is one of the coolest things to be able to do!

3. She has her own move named after her

Only a few gymnasts can say that they have a move named after themselves. This is a huge honor to have in any sport and should be celebrated! Simone’s move is a double layout with 1/2 turn. This move is now rightfully named “The Biles”.

4. She's hitting a whole lot of "firsts."

Not only is Biles the first female gymnast to win three world all-around titles in a row, she's also the first African-American gymnast to become the world all-around champion.

5. She wants to get a "real job" after she's done competing

This is for me is a neat fact about her. Most Olympians, once retired, run on sponsorships and what not. But just hearing that she wants to go out into the world and be “normal” after she has retired is comforting.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
