With the expansion that our school has undergone, "America's Prettiest Little Stadium" might not be so little. Nonetheless, despite the changes to Paulson Stadium, here are five things that haven't changed:
1. Freedom the Eagle
One of the cool traditions we have is the pre-kickoff flight of our live mascot Freedom. None of the other schools in the state of Georgia come close to pre-game involvement with their mascot.
2. The Yellow Buses
Schools pride themselves on traditions but this, I have to say, is the coolest one by far. Sticking back to their roots and going back to the transportation in place since the inception of the football program is what makes Georgia Southern special.
3. "Whose House? Our House!"
If this saying - chanted between the students on one end of the field and the alumni response on the other end of the field - doesn't get you excited, you shouldn't be enrolled here.
4. The Alma Mater at the end of games
Win or lose, players and coaches alike go and sing the alma mater in front of the band. That right there is something that makes football more than just a game but a tradition itself. Something that the other "GSU" (Georgia State) should probably take note of.
5. The Uniforms
In an age where flashy uniforms are the new fad, it's refreshing to see that the traditional blue and white with the numbers on the helmet have stuck here. Sure we've had the grey uniforms or the military appreciation ones, but when it comes down to it there's nothing better than seeing the same uniforms amidst all the success and to see the Blue and White at Paulson Stadium.
