Sometimes, you need to watch a good movie that you don’t have to think much about, and that will make you feel better by the time it’s over. No matter how hard you think about what movie you want to watch, you’re always stumped for some reason or another. Well, to help you out, here’s my top 5 movies I like to watch when I’m down (disclaimer: they’re all romances because I’m trash).

1. "While You Were Sleeping"

It’s not how most people think of Sandra Bullock nowadays, but this movie was excellent from start to finish. There’s humor, sentimental moments, and even a happy ending. What more could you want?

2. "Sleepless In Seattle"

No, not all of these movies are about sleeping. However, this film, starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, is a beautiful movie in which the two characters (spoiler alert) do not even meet until the very end. It’s extremely quotable, and always leaves me with a refreshed feeling at the end.

3. "A Christmas Kiss"

This film is my own personal indulgence because it is absolutely awful. The ideas are there, but the writing and acting just don’t add up. Still, I always find myself falling for the story by the end, and even though I spend most of my watch time making fun of it, it does have its own shining moments.

4. "Beauty and the Beast"

Read: your favorite Disney film. "Beauty and the Beast" is my personal favorite, but if you’d rather sub in your favorite, feel free. And if you don’t have a favorite Disney film, consider this a wild card. Either way, this particular film has a very special place in my heart, and I feel better the instant the opening music begins.

5. "Waitress"

This is less of a romance than the others, and kind of deals with slightly heavier subject matter, but it is beautiful all the same. It’s even better if you add listening to the “Waitress” musical soundtrack to your to-do list.

In all, these films may not be your favorite. They may not make you feel 100% better. However, they never fail to lift my spirits, and having a list is always a good way to avoid that constant scrolling through Netflix to no avail.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
