Here are 5 of my Favorite Christmas Gifts as a Kid

It's the season for Christmas shopping, a season in which parents push past one another in order to try to buy the latest action figure, electronic or doll for their kids. Here are five of my favorite Christmas gifts as a kid (thanks Santa!)

1. American Girl I actually got the Molly doll for my birthday when I was 8, but I'll never forget when I got my Samantha and Nellie dolls for Christmas 2004. "Samantha: An American Girl Holiday" was the first American Girl movie in 2004. American Girl was a great toy that taught me about history through characters who were the same age as me. Thankfully, American Girl still has a historical doll line called BeForever.

2. Amazing Ally She could talk to me and remember my birthday, and was truly amazing. My parents disagreed. They thought she was creepy.

3. Barbie Powerwheel Jeep Way cooler than a bike, this jeep let me put the pedal to medal (err...plastic) and drive around like a grown up. It even had different buttons that played songs when I pressed them. It sure made me the envy of the block.

4. Barbie Grand Hotel All I remember is that it had an elevator for Barbie to go up and down. How cool is an elevator?

5. Barbie Play House I guess you could say like any stereotypical little girl, I really liked Barbie. I'm sure you can understand that playing house is way more fun when you have an actual house to call your own to play in. I could drive my Barbie jeep right up to the front door of the house.

What were some of your favorite Christmas gifts or toys you had while growing up?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
