Fashion trends are like a revolving door these days. Just as one style is on its way out, there is another one more appealing to us fashionistas. As much as 2016 fashion has given us this year, here are 5 fashion trends (and their replacements) that we must not take into 2017.
1. Heels Four to Five Inches or Higher
This rapidly decreasing trend is long overdue for retirement. Women these days are more focused on implementing comfortable and practical footwear in their style. Trying to find the perfect balance between comfort and style may seem tricky, but there are options. Sneakers such as the Adidas Superstars can take you to and from any occasion. Superstars can be your go-to shoe to wear with leggings and a comfy sweater, skinny jeans and a blouse, or even pair them with a dress. Superstars can be practically worn with any outfit of choice. They are the perfect balance of feminine and sporty.
Another shoe that is both stylish and comfortable are low block heels. Low block heels have replaced stilettos with walkable added height that gives support and an alluring element to refresh all of your looks.
There's no more need to conform to wearing heels when there are comfortable and practical options to add into your style.
2. Cold-Shoulder Tops
Off-the-shoulder looks are great, even flattering, but cold-shoulder just looks like you randomly cut holes in your top. These tops look fashionable but may cause extreme frustration when trying them on. The ridiculous slits in the top make it uncomfortable to wear if you do not have unrealistic skinny arms. The name, "cold-shoulder top," truly fits. With winter's weather quickly dropping day by day, these random slits will surely give you a "cold-shoulder" effect. It's disappointing when you spot a cute top in a store just to find shoulder cut-outs.
3. Fitness Trackers
Fitness trackers, like the Fitbit phenomenon, are completely unnecessary. If you truly want to live a healthier life, then drink more water, eat more fruits/vegetables, consistently exercise, and attain a decent amount of sleep at night. If you miss a workout or didn't have time to squeeze a run into your hectic day, then your tracker is a constant reminder saying, "You didn't get your workout in today!" The majority of Fitbit owners are way too obsessed with reaching their fitness goals that when they don't, they became stressed. Stress is not fit. Along with any new and shiny tech toy, yes, including your smartphone, fitness trackers are more for show than practicality. Fitbits were meant to promote health and fitness but quickly turned into a staple to your fitness outfit. For those who must color coordinate their outfits, it becomes a struggle to try to match it to your dress, shoes, or accessories. Overall, fitness trackers are not a fashion or fitness trend that deserves to stay. If you want to throw a hundred dollars down the drain on a hideous bracelet that ruins your outfit and advertises, "Hey, look at me! I am counting my steps!" then get a fitness tracker. It will not make you fit, you must actively do that yourself.
4. Outrageous Printed Tights
Eye-popping printed tights should be reserved for Halloween and costume parties and just about nothing else. Tights are a stylish cold-weather staple that everyone should have in their drawer, but it is imperative to know the sitch on making them flattering. The smaller the print on tights, the thinner the leg. Printed tights are acceptable if you keep in mind one vital rule: Unless you are purposely trying to make your legs look bigger, stick with small, subtle prints. Net, pair them with a short skirt or dress and high boots to provide the ideal peek-a-boo view of your tights.
Your colored tights can turn any outfit into something special, but remember they should complement, not clash, with your outfit. If you have a simple black dress in your closet you feel is too drab, then throw on a pair of ruby-red, mustard-yellow, or coral tights to liven up your look. The focus should always be on your overall look, and not just your tights.
5. Statement Snapbacks
Snapbacks are heavily promoted by our favorite entertainers and athletes, but this "fashion statement" is on its way out. Why advertise a simple message on your forehead when you can just simply speak your mind? A plain and simple baseball cap in your favorite color or a neutral color is the perfect accessory.
