January 29th marks the release of Disney's Classic, Sleeping Beauty. So we have another movie anniversary upon us, Mouseketeers! Sleeping Beauty doesn't get much credit for being a favorite movie because well, our leading princess was asleep for the majority of the movie. But still, Sleeping Beauty is still a favorite classic: some love it because of the music, some love it because of Maleficient (Well, well), and there are also some who love Briar Rose (Guilty). But whatever the reason, it's safe to say this movie is incredibly loved today. And in honor of the 58th anniversary, here are 5 facts on Sleeping Beauty.
1) Productiof Sleeping Beauty took 6 years to be made: production started in 1951, till it's release on 1959.
2) Disney feared the movie would look ALOT similar to Snow White (aka the FIRST DISNEY PRINCESS). Talking to animals? Check. Ran away into the woods? Check. High pitch singing voice? Check. Angry Stepmother/Relative? Check. WOKEN UP BY TRUE LOVE'S KISS? Big solid CHECK.
3) Creators of Sleeping Beauty reused the final dance sequence for Beauty and the Beast’s final dance sequence: one of the many famous examples of Disney recycling animations.
4) Unfortunately, Sleeping Beauty didn't do well box office wise, which led to production being put on hold till The Little Mermaid.
5) Today, Sleeping Beauty's castle is everyone's favorite castle in Disneyland. While production for Sleeping Beauty was still being made, Walt Disney used this as a perfect opportunity to base the castle off of Sleeping Beauty.
