From spontaneous trips with friends, to all the crazy shopping we get sucked into, summer expenses can take a toll on your wallet, and being "young, wild and free" comes at a serious cost. Luckily, there are still plenty of ways to have the summer of your dreams while still keeping your bank account happy. And while I am no expert when it comes to money-saving, these tips have definitely worked for me over the years.

1. If you're working, take at least 25% of every paycheck and put it into a savings account.

If I have money in my checkings account, it is so easy for me to just grab my debit card and spend it. But if I know I have been putting money aside to be saved for a rainy day, it is much harder for me to spend it, or at the very least, I can't do so without feeling guilty, which is usually enough to keep me from doing so anyways.

2. Keep track of all the money that your spending over the summer.

Whether it's gas money, grabbing lunch with friends, or anything else you may be spending money on, it's a good idea to have an idea of where all your money is going. That way, if you do find your bank account to be dwindling, you'll at least know where you need to cut back on the spending.

3. Only shop for things because you need them, not because it's on sale.

More than likely, whatever you're purchasing, you didn't need before and life will continue to go on without it. Just because it's a good deal doesn't mean that you're automatically inclined to have it.

4. If you're taking a trip, spend money on actual necessities.

This includes food and transportation. While having a safe place to stay for the night is also important, this doesn't mean you have to be blowing all your money on a lavish place that you're probably not going to be spending that much time in anyways. Comfort is expensive, and you can do without that fancy hotel with the separate kitchen, living room, pool and gym.

5. This last one is kind of obvious, but the best way to save money is to spend less of it!

I know, what a surprise. But it is summer, the weather is nice, and you can find plenty of fun, free things to do. From free concerts and beaches to other outdoor activities, you don't need to spend a ton of money to find yourself making amazing memories.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
