Involvement in college is one of the crucial things which an incoming freshman or any normal continuing student at USF should be aware of. They are great resume builders and you also get to meet employers one on one at events organized by the different Engineering Organizations at USF. Here are some of the organizations that you should definitely be a part of:

1. Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)

SHPE is the largest Engineering Organization at USF and conducts a vast array of events every semester. The main goal of SHPE is to empower the Hispanic Community to create a world where the Hispanics are highly valued for their intelligence and become the leading innovators in Mathematics and Science. SHPE conducts many events through out the semesters where they invite over employers to chat with the students and also talk about what they look for in resumes. SHPE also has facilities to help students build their resume and also help students to get jobs easily! The best part about SHPE is that you dont need to be a Hispanic to join this organization because everyone is welcome!

Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE-USF)

IEEE is one of the most largest and famous organizations on campus. The IEEE society is similar to SHPE and also conducts many events for employers to come over and speak to the student. They have a robotics competition which they attend every year called the Southeast Con. They also handle the Computer Science chapter of the school!

Society of Automotive Engineers (USF RACING)

SAE is one of the coolest organizations on campus because you get to build Formula style race cars! Every year a new car is designed and manufactured by students which is then raced at two events during the summer, one in Michigan and one in Nebraska. Top companies like Toyota, Ferrari, Accuro and General Motors are also present at these events because they are always searching for vehicle engineers and these events are a great resume builder, especially for Mechanical Engineers!

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)

ASCE is one of the most helpful organizations for future civil engineers and serve to use the special talents of each and every member, especially in the area of technical expertise and aim to create a professional environment for their members. They construct a concrete canoe every year and also participate in the canoe competition!

American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

ASME along with SAE is great for Mechanical Engineers. Their aim is to provide their members with the tools and expertise to excel in the global market. They aim to promote professionalism through the different competitions and events that they conduct.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
