If you haven’t heard of the Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt then you’ve clearly been hiding under a rock for awhile. This show isn’t even low key inspiring, it’s actually a completely hilarious and empowering show. I binge watched the entire second season on Apr. 15, when it came out, and I don’t regret one bit of it. Thank you, Tina Fey, for something so funny and inspiring. Here are a couple of things this amazing show has tought me.

1. Confidence is key

This tip is always lost on college-aged women because we’re constantly trained to believe that we’re tied to whatever male is in our lives. Well, that’s just not true. I’ve learned that confidence and independence can go a long way in helping you to achieve your dreams. From internships, leadership positions, to becoming the next CEO of Apple. It’s all within your reach as long as you know how to present yourself.

2. Follow your heart

That confidence is nothing if you don’t use it to follow your heart. For me, I know that my heart is in travel. I get an incredible rush from being lost somewhere and finding my way around by wandering aimlessly. Find what pulls you and just run after it with all you’ve got. After all, that’s exactly what Kimmy did.

3. Don’t be afraid to be a little weird

In order to be successful, you’re going to have to stand out. Embrace your weird and funny side. Who knows, maybe it could help you out in the future? There’s nothing more powerful than someone who accepts what makes them different and doesn’t let people tear them down.

4. You don’t need a man

Now, I’m not saying guys are bad. I'm all about a nice looking guy, but I’m also the first to admit that I don’t need one. For me, a significant other isn’t a factor in my life plan because I know I want to focus on building my own success and fulfilling my life dreams. Kimmy does a great job of following her heart, but also not letting a significant others get in the way of her goals in life.

5. Never forget how strong you are

Here’s an ode to the best theme song ever, but also a reminder to just rock your life because you can literally grow human beings inside of yourself. If that isn’t terrifyingly cool, then I don’t know what is. Really, though, keep yourself strong mentally. Life is hard, and Kimmy does a great job of coping with some serious stuff. Be sure to channel her when classes are hard or you’re having a serious crisis.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
