Every four years the Olympics come around. I am an avid fan of the Olympics. I try to watch as many sports as I can, so that means I spend two weeks on the couch watching outrageously fit athletes perform to their fullest potential while I'm eating pints of ice cream and pizza screaming at the TV for them to swim, run or cycle faster (stereotypical American, right?) I just can't help it. I have so much love for team USA. With all that love, I am very emotional while watching the Olympics.
1. Excitement
Let me tell you, I was glued to my TV screen Friday night watching the opening ceremonies. This is my favorite part of the games. Watching Team USA walk out this year gave me the chills. I love watching the athletes walk out and seeing how pumped up they are to start representing their countries.
2. Astonishment
Watching Katie Ledecky, Simone Biles, Nathan Adrian and much more, you can always expect the greatest performances. These athletes push themselves to the limits- it's truly inspirational what they do. I mean, Ledecky crushed her world record in the 400m freestyle and she was just like, "Oh yeah I knew I was going to break it, no big deal." Simone Biles, this girl is untouchable, there is no one in the world that can beat her. Finally, Nathan Adrian- he was the anchor in the men's 4x100m relay and his split was amazing, which helped the men bring home the gold. Every time I watch Team USA perform I am always impressed.
3. Anxiety
Does anyone else feel like Aly Raisman's parents while watching gymnastics? These men and women are throwing themselves through the air doing unthinkable twists and flips while making it look like no big deal. Well, I am her parents when I am watching every sport, table tennis makes me feel as if I am about to have a stroke.
4. Relief
The amount of relief I feel after a heat, match, and game is most likely embarrassing. I get myself so worked up during events. I just want Team USA to do their best, OK?
5. Pride
I am so proud of every single athlete that is performing in the Olympics. This year, I watched road cycling for the first time and it was nothing like I expected it to be. I can't begin to explain how proud I was of Mara Abott, even though she took 4th place. She had the race of her life. She did so well even with the roads not being in the best conditions.
That's the thing about the Olympics; if you perform to your fullest potential but don't medal, you still have the support from your teammates, coaches and country. Of course, I want Team USA to take home a medal in every event, but if we fall short I am still undoubtedly proud of those athletes that are representing our country because let's be honest, we are the greatest country at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
P.S Nathan Adrian if you see this, feel free to follow me back on Twitter and don't be shy to slide into ya girl's DM.
