In the middle of my junior year of high school, I started my very own Etsy shop. Everything happened really quickly, and in reality, the decision to open an e-commerce shop was very impulsive. Having said that, opening my shop was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. Being the confused junior I was, starting my own Etsy store revealed my love and desire for all things business-oriented, and it helped me discover a great deal about myself. But do not be fooled, having an Etsy store (whether you have four sales, 400 sales or 4,000 sales) can cause a roller coaster of emotions. Here is the naked truth that reveals the emotions that an Etsy seller has!
1. Pride.
Right off the bat, every seller's largest emotion towards their shop is pure pride. I have to admit, I love being able to say that I have my own e-commerce store and that I work for myself at such a young age. All of us sellers are proud that we took action and followed through to create something amazing for both ourselves and buyers!
2. Excitement.
This GIF accurately shows how every seller reacts when they see the amazing "new order from ____" notification pop up on our phone screen. It means that the buyer chose US. Out of the hundreds of other Etsy stores, we were the store the buyer ultimately decided on. Now that's an awesome feeling.
3. Irritation.
This is a shoutout to the buyers because as sellers, our main job is to create the product you buy, so help us do our job by giving us the information we need! We have description boxes at checkout for a reason, use them!
Also, if I hear, "Oh, when are you going to get an actual job?" one more time, I might scream. I have a job. I work many hours a week, and I get a deposit of funds every Monday! We put a lot of effort and creativity into our shops to help make them (or keep them) successful. We use social media marketing often and put money back into our small businesses. I work for myself, and I love it.
5. Sadness.
We hate to see a customer upset with their purchase. Whether it's through a poor review on Etsy or receiving a negative message, it makes us feel horrible inside and out! Please don't leave us a one-star review without messaging us first; the majority of us want you to be 100 percent satisfied with our store and will usually go the extra mile to make sure of it!
5. Stressed.
Sometimes, running our shop just becomes way too much. There are days that making orders is so fast and easy, yet there are other days when materials seem to be wasted and we mess orders up. Since Etsy is all about customizing products, it can become stressful trying to meet everyone's requests and needs.
I am both a buyer and seller on Etsy, and I think that it is truly an amazing platform. There are some extremely talented people in this world, and it's awesome that Etsy is there to showcase them! Whether you are a buyer, seller or both, I hope you found this article insightful and entertaining!
P.S. If you are a buyer, make sure to please use the description box so we sellers don't have to experience the irritated emotion anymore!
