The 5 Emotions Of Big/Little Season

...and all the sorority girls screamed.

The 5 Emotions Of Big/Little Season
Bethany Pruitt

It's that time of the year... bid day was a whirlwind of craziness and fun. But it's nothing compared to what's head—Big/Little reveal. As the weeks leading up turn into days, you'll experience every emotion throughout this stressful, rewarding process. Here are a couple natural emotions you'll be facing throughout this week as a sorority woman:

1. Nervousness

The call...

Where you anxiously wait in agony, staring at your phone every minute, running through every possible scenario in your head, until your phone finally rings and they tell you who wants to be your little. Did you hear that correctly? They said YOUR LITTLE. How exciting is that?! You immediately smile, scream, cry, (whichever your preference) as they say the new member's name and the phrase "your little" in the same sentence. The excitement has only begun. Now, it's time to get to work...

2. Devious Plotting

Anonymously terrorizing your little throughout the week. If this doesn't scream fun, I don't know what will. Big's look forward to acting out their devious plans in hopes of tricking their little so hard, they'll be confused as to who you even are. Get creative, have fun with it—it makes reveal that much sweeter.

3. Stress, stress, stress (aka crafting until your hands bleed)

Okay, well maybe not as far as bleeding (watch out for the hot glue gun though). However, the week leading up to reveal will be the ultimate test of your patience, creativeness and sanity. You'll laugh in delirium from being up all night painting, cry from making a mistake on a piece and question the decision why you even wanted to become a big. Oh, and can't forget to plan a reveal theme or matching t-shirts with your fam. You can't give up though, because let's be honest, you're already in love with your little (and you already spent way too much time/money/effort in those craft masterpieces).

4. Excitement/Curiosity

Learning anything and everything about your little. My personal favorite part: asking your little a thousand questions (anonymously, of course) about herself. Her favorite color combinations, candy, coffee order and music tastes are a must to know. You'll find yourself stalking her social media profiles so much just because you're already obsessed with her.

5. Relief. Joy. Love.

The sweet, sweet day has come: reveal day. Shake off those nerves, recap those roller coaster moments from the previous week and get excited as you get to meet your little officially now as her big. Be prepared for 2-minute long hugs, bruises from being tackled to the ground and loss of hearing from the cumulative screams from each girl in your sorority. Cherish these precious moments and take lots of pictures, because reveal day will be one for the books. For you and your little, it's the beginning of your story.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
