Christian songs are great. There's nothing better than turning on the radio after a long day and hearing a song that lifts you up, and you know God put it there just for you. There are times when you just get so lost in worship that it's a wonderful experience. But like all music, there are times when Christian radio just doesn't seem to make any sense...
1) Jesus Culture "How He Loves"
Love's like a hurricane, and I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy
Hurricane's destroy things and leave people, homes, and communities devestated. That's not any experience I've ever had with God's love....
2) Chris Tomlin "Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)"
And like a flood His mercy rains
Floods rain? Since when?
3) Chris Tomlin "In The Secret"
“I want to touch you, I want to see your face, I want to know you more.”
This song makes no mention of WHO is being sung to. Very confusing for anyone who doesn't know...
4) Mat Redman "Heart of Worship"
"For a song in itself Is not what You have required"
Here we see that we are singing a song about not having to sing a song because God does not want a song. So let's sing about it.
5) Sidewalk Prophets "Wrecking Ball"
I need a wrecking ball
Slamming inside my heart
Breaking me all apart
Tearing the old away
Killing the fear in me
Until I can finally breathe
Even if it hurts so bad that I can’t even stand
Take it all, let me fall into Your hands
Besides the fact that people look at you weird when you say you're listening to "Wrecking Ball" this song sounds fun, but makes no sense. When it hurts so bad you can't stand, then you can breathe. And apparently something slamming into your heart kills your fear. Actually it probably would. Because you'd be dead.
All that being said, Christian music is still an uplifting part of anyone's day. Just make sure you know what you're singing.
