College can be hard, but with some determination and thinking you can save a lot of money and maybe even earn some too!
1. Return stuff you don't need!
For only a few times a year, Walmart will let you return stuff if you've had it for less than 90 days without a receipt. Yes that's correct! You don't have to have a receipt for it- so awesome! I've done it a few times just to downsize on some of the stuff that I've bought on a whim. Usually instead of giving you cash, you'll be allowed to exchange it for anything in that same category, but it's still a good way to get what you want. Costco also has a very good policy on returns, but I don't shop there much because I'm a single college student who doesn't need 80 paper towel rolls.
2. Sell stuff on eBay!
Every month, eBay gives you 50 free listings! That gives you the possibility to sell up to 50 items for free in one month with no extra listing fees. I do this all the time and I've sold quite a bit of stuff. Stuff that goes really well: electronics, nail polish, UNUSED beauty supplies, and books.
3. Sell the unneeded textbooks on Chegg.com!
Between Chegg sellback, Amazon trade in and the book store, you can get money for almost every book that you have. It's awesome to sell the books from those classes that you don't need to keep the book for.
4. Join some kind of mileage club.
I'm part of Shell and Plenti, and between the two of them I'm able to save quite a bit on gas money. The Shell card gives a few cents off each gallon you're at the pump and Plenti collects the points used and you can get $10+ off purchases.
5. Pick up tutoring.
I do this through Chegg tutors. They pay $20/hr and I have a lot of fun with it. Funds are sent to the account on each Thursday and it's really easy and a lot of fun. The money does begin to pile up after a few weeks.
Good luck with these ways and comment below some that you swear upon!
