At the beginning of quarantine, I was determine to flip my life around just like everyone else. Well, that only lasted two weeks. I got into the habit of binge watching Netflix, and TikTok, and not doing much to help myself. As quarantine restrictions began to lift, and summer approached I realized I needed to start doing things for myself again. I took a step back and looked at all the things that made me feel down, or bad and switched my habits. There were five easy things that I realized could 100% flip how I feel everyday, and started bringing me more positivity.

1. Eat a good breakfast

Breakfast was something I always overlooked but I ate a good, healthy breakfast and I never felt better that day. I had a breakfast with protein, fruits/vegetables, and carbs. I have dietary restrictions which is why I didn't cover all the food groups, but if you can in your breakfast, do so. You will feel so much better for the rest of your day, not feeling as tired.

2. Make your bed

This may be something that you always hear and just brush it off, but it can make a difference. As soon as you are done with your breakfast, or leave your house, make your bed. It makes your room look so much cleaner, and coming home to a made bed after a long day will just make you feel better. It's a simple task that will help brighten your day, without you even realizing it.

3. Exercise at least 10 minutes 5 of the 7 days of the week

Your body will feel so much better when you exercise just a little bit everyday. Whether it's walking around your neighborhood, riding a bike with some friends, or hitting the gym, taking care of your body will make you feel better. You won't feel as icky for laying down too much, or eating some junk food. It's important to take care of yourself, but it's a double win when you feel good, and accomplished after.

4. Taking 10 minutes a day to relax, meditate, pray, etc. without any electronics

Your eyes get so strained from your electronics, that you can get headaches that will make you feel lousy. These 10 minutes will help you reflect on your day, and yourself while relaxing your body. This will put your mind in a positive, calming state that will help make the rest of your day better.

5. Drink 8 cups of water a day

Water is one of the best things for your body. I mean, we need it to survive. Drinking 8 cups a day will not only make you feel good, it will keep you hydrated. Staying properly hydrated everyday is so good for your health. It's so simple, yet so effective.

Making yourself and your body feel good is a major way to keep yourself feeling good throughout the day. I hope these five things can help make a difference in your day, just like it did mine!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
