It's easy for many of us to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We often look for many outlets of enjoyment, and many times, we spend money on things that make us happy. However, the common phrase, 'the best things in life are free', is something we should look at more often. We don't always have to order a drink or buy clothes in order to feel happiness. Here are 5 easy ways to experience that phrase in your life:

1. Go for a walk in the park.

You would be surprised at how calm and relaxed a simple walk through a park can make you feel. Soak up the sun, enjoy nature, and really take in everything around you. A little Vitamin C and some flowers can do wonders!

2. Say hi to a stranger.

You never truly know what somebody else is going through in their life at any given moment, and sometimes a simple 'hello' and a smile can turn someone's day around. Make it a goal to smile at everyone you pass, and say hi to somebody you don't know!

3. Tell someone you love them.

You can never tell somebody enough just how much you love them. Time is so precious and it is something we are not guaranteed in this world, and reaching out to family or friends just to show your love is a must do.

4. Write in a journal.

We get so caught up in our daily emotions that it can be hard to sort ourselves out sometimes. By writing everything down, we allow ourselves to reflect back on the day and see what went on. Writing gives you the opportunity to release emotions you may be holding back, and allow yourself some more happiness into your life!

5. Listen to some music.

Music can be calming to the soul, and so whether it's popping in some headphones or plugging your music into some speakers and blasting it out loud, play whatever makes you happy. Get up and dance if you have to!

Find what makes you happy, and do it! Just remember...some of the best things in life are the things we're constantly surrounded by.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
