Every year, we make New Year's resolutions. Nearly every year, if not every single one, the resolutions last for about a month, if not less. Get in shape, travel more, save more money--they're always admirable goals, but yet, here we are, not achieving them. Maybe it's because these resolutions don't have a quantitative measurement, maybe we get too sucked into other things to remember them, no matter why they get abandoned, they just don't stick.

Here's a few resolutions you CAN keep up with, that will make you and the people around you feel good.
Every day you can...
1. Smile at something small
Just the act of smiling can and will make your day brighter. Whether it's a squirrel with his face full of food, or the first flower in a field, or a picture of a puppy. Smile at something. It's not a hard thing to do every day--but it'll feel good if you've made sure you've done it.
2. Make someone else smile
There's a good chance your act of smiling could make someone else smile, but if not, it would be a good idea to try. A nice gesture, just smiling at them, or pointing out the thing that brightened your day would be enough.
3. Say something nice
Give someone else a compliment! Or, even, talk someone you know up. What goes around comes around, and saying nice things about someone else can hardly be a bad thing to come back around.
4. Look in the mirror and give yourself a compliment
Don't forget to make yourself feel good, too. Most people look in a mirror at least once a day, brushing their teeth, washing their hands, or even just checking their reflection in a passing window. Take an extra moment in front of your own image, and remind yourself of something you've got going for you--cosmetic or otherwise!
5. Do one small thing for someone else
Let someone go ahead of you in a line, pay for the person behind you's drink at the coffee shop, give a homeless person a sandwich, or even just hold a door open for a few more people than you would normally wait for.
These aren't the typical resolutions you would think of, and they aren't necessarily going to better your body or wallet. These don't necessarily include parameters, which can make keeping them harder, but you'll know if you've done it. They will, however, get you in the mind of being able to make and stick to those resolutions, and can get you on track to making bigger ones next year!
