The style from the early 2000’s is regarded by some to be the worst style in history. I used to be a firm believer that it was also. However, as time goes on, I’m starting to warm up to the early 2000’s aesthetic. Adidas superstars and chokers have become super trendy again. While there will definitely be some pieces I will never see as stylish, most styles can be updated with modern flavor. With that, here are some of the 2000’s trends I’m about to be rocking this summer and upcoming fall semester because I’ve been obsessed.
Sweatsuits
Call it a disgusting groutfit, but you can’t say this doesn’t look chic as f*ck. Unlike the Juicy Couture sweatsuits of yesteryear, the sweatsuits of today can be so much more flattering. NOBODY looked good in that Juicy Couture velour. I don’t care. Velour was not okay. But this Puma sweatsuit? I’m into it.
Athletic slide sandals
I know I used to say that this was the universal f*ckboy shoe. But honestly if that’s the case, then I guess I’m a f*ckboy too. Adidas slides were my go-to shoe in middle school and for good reason. They’re quick and can be worn with socks if it’s a little bit chillier outside. When you’re going to yoga or picking up your meds at CVS, do you really want to be wearing clunky sneakers? Hell no. Quickness is a necessity. Deep down I love these shoes and I’m sorry I ever let anyone tell me otherwise.
Trucker Hats
Don’t worry, I’m not talking about Von Dutch. Trucker hats have gotten a bad rep since their heyday in the 2000’s. But recently I’ve been seeing them here and there on Instagram and Tumblr and I gotta say… I’m a believer. Justin Bieber, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Hailey Baldwin have all been spotted wearing the infamous trucker hat. But I have to say, in a neutral color combination and with the right outfit, it totally works.
Bucket Hats
A lot of people love them for tailgates or for when they going fishing (idk??), but these hats can totally be an everyday accessory. These were a staple in the 2000’s, just ask Nelly or LL Cool J. And recently rapper Schoolboy Q has brought them to the forefront again. Just like the trucker hat, a neutral bucket hat can add a certain X-factor to any outfit.
Silk Dresses/Tops
Silk was all the rage in the 90's/2000’s and it’s slowly been becoming a thing again and let me be the first to say thank God. Silk not only looks cool because of its shiny texture, but it also moves so effortlessly unlike tight bodycon fabrics. It also adds an element of sexiness to any outfit. Going out and don’t know what to wear? Easy. Your favorite jeans, booties, lace bralette, silk cami. Now go get ‘em, you fox.
