During the cold winter months, we have nothing better to do than just sit back and watch Netflix. But if we watch an educational documentary, that means we are doing something productive, right?
1. "Making a Murderer"
This is one of the hottest things on Netflix, right now. This documentary, that is broken up into 10 episodes, is about Steven Avery and his journey through a corrupt local law enforcement agency. Based on a true story, this series goes through Avery's live and what happens when you are accused of a crime you did not commit.
2. "Blackfish"
Blackfish tells the story of Tilikum, an orca at SeaWorld that has killed numerous trainers while in captivity. This documentary looks into the multi-billion dollar industry around wild animals being kept in captivity and forcing to perform. This documentary is truly gut-wrenching, and emotion, that it is worth the time (and maybe the tears) to sit down and watch.
3. "Planet Earth"
Planet Earth is a documentary about -- you named it -- nature. This multi-episode documentary is easily one of the most beautiful cinematic pieces of art ever produced. From the plains of Africa to the tops of the mountains in Asia, this documentary shows all forms of life, in the most beautiful way possible.
4. "Super Size Me"
This is a classic documentary that I am sure that we are all familiar with. During a 30-day period, director Morgan Spurlock embarked on a mission to only eat McDonald's food for every meal, Though he was successful, the processed food wreaked havoc on his body. Spurlock makes it a point to show all of the aspects of his life during this time -- from the doctor's office, what happens in his bathroom after eating a McDonalds meal. This is easily one of the most
5. "Vaccines -- Calling the Shots"
This documentary, made by PBS, dips its toes into the argument about the vaccination of young kids. As one of my favorite topics, both sides of the argument are displayed in an informative and respectful manner, something which can be hard to do when it comes to the health of our youngsters. Though the documentary can get confusing for some who may not have a medical background, it is a great reference point for anyone who will be vaccinating their children soon.
