5 Distractions To Get You Out Of A Bad Mood
sad to happy

If you are anything close to the average human being, chances are you have had your fair share of bad moods, sad funks, and more or less, just feeling blue. When you're in a bad mood, and all you want to do is cry, the easiest thing to do is stay in it and be sorry for yourself, however, this pretty much gets you nowhere. So, I decided to make a list of a few distractions or tactics that I use when I'm feeling sad to turn my mood around!

1. Work Out/Going For A Walk

Now that it's summer, the weather is typically much nicer and the simple act of going outside, walking, and breathing in the sweet summer air, can be so helpful in calming you down. It gives you a chance to really clear your mind and quite literally take a breath of fresh air. Other than walking, you can also go to the gym, go for a run, do some yoga or do some simple workouts wherever you can! This allows you to get some of that built up negative energy out of your system!

2. Getting Lost In A Book/Movie/Show

Reading books or watching some of your favorite shows or movies is a great distraction to help you stop thinking about being sad. When I am in a really bad mood, I love to sit and watch "Friends", because it makes me laugh and in turn makes me feel happy!

3. Meeting Up With Friends

Whether this means going out for lunch with friends, shopping, driving around and blasting your favorite songs with friends, or really doing absolutely anything with your friends, going out and being social can be a super quick fix to feeling down. Meeting up with a few friends that you enjoy to be around can help take your mind off being sad and can often help cheer you up! In addition, you can also choose to meet with some people who you feel you can trust and who care about you and discuss with them what it is that's making you feel the way you feel. Often times, these people know exactly what to say/do to help you feel better.

4. Listening To Music

Music is another excellent distraction. Everyone has heard that saying, "headphones in, world out"! This is so true! Whenever I plug those headphones in, and blast some of my favorite songs in my ears, it feels as though the rest of the world simply doesn't exist!

5. Spending Time With Family/Loved Ones/Pets

Spending time around loved ones helps you to feel more loved and in turn happier! For me, whenever I am sad, I love hanging out with my adorable little sisters, as they make me laugh, or talking to one of my parents, as they always help me to feel better about any situation!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
