Summer down in Delaware is definitely different than it is in Boston, but after spending two years here, I have figured out the best things to keep me happy when summer rolls around. If you're not familiar with some of the best things to do here in Delaware, then keep reading!!
1. Delaware Beaches
Whether you have a beach house or take day trips to the beach then you know there is nothing better better than spending the day getting all sandy and sunburned. Trust me you have many beaches to choose from! If you're looking for a quiet day then head on over to Lewes, if you're looking for a little more action then Rehobeth is the place for you! Cape Henelopen State Park happens to be my favorite but really you can't go wrong with any of them.
2. Lum's Pond State Park
My favorite thing to do at Lum's Pond is the Go APE! Go APE is 5 courses that involve climbing trees, and then zip lining to the next section. Each time you increase in height and you even zip line over the water! As long as you aren't afraid to get a little down and dirty, then I highly recommend this!!
3. UDairy
If you're an ice cream lover like me, then the University of Delaware's "UDairy" Creamery is THE place to get your ice cream this summer. From every unique flavor they have to the very basic flavors they have, you can't go wrong with a nice big cone to end a great day.
4. The Gardens
As soon as the weather starts to get nice you have to head on over to Longwood Gardens. Although LG isn't in Delaware, it is only a short half hour ride to it's location in Kennet Sq, PA. The beautiful flowers and blossoming trees are sure to put a smile on your face. Another fantastic place to visit is my mothers personal favorite, Winterthur! Winterthur is another incredible garden area as well as a library. Not only is it beautiful during the spring/summer, the Christmas views are to die for!! Definitely a must-do if you haven't yet.
5. Chesapeake City
Although Chesapeake City isn't in Delaware either, it is my favorite spot to grab a drink with a friend (whose 21) and eat some crab dip. THE best crab dip I have ever had. Located right on the Chesapeake river, the Chesapeake Inn is the place to be on Friday and Saturday nights. With the live music and great crowd, you are sure to have a great time!
