5 Dear Evan Hansen Songs That Shouldn't "Disappear"

In This Article:

Dear Evan Hansen is fairly new to the broadway stage. To me, it is much needed. So many people can really connect with this story.

This hit musical tells the story of anxiety-ridden Evan Hansen who only wants to fit in. Evan Hansen puts himself in a huge bind when he begins to lie about being friends with a classmate who commits suicide. Through different events that take place, Evan finds himself with the girl of his dreams, and sees himself as no longer invisible.

But eventually, Evan is faced with a monumental decision. Will he tell the family the truth and risk giving up everything he's ever dreamed of or will he keep everything to himself?

The songs in this remarkable show are incredible, and they take you though a range of emotions. If you listen to the lyrics carefully, you can probably think of a time in your life when you could relate to them. There are 14 songs on the original cast recording, but here are 5 of the most relatable.

1. Waving Through A Window

Valentina Terrazas from Flickr

"On the outside, always looking in,
Will I ever be more than I've always been?"

"I'm waving through a window,
Can anybody see, is anybody waving back at me?"

2. Disappear

Soph San from Flickr

"No one deserves to be forgotten,
No one deserves to fade away"

"Even if you've always been that barely-in-the-background kind of guy,
You still matter"

3. You Will Be Found

Jessie Voigts from Flickr

"Let that lonely feeling wash away,
Maybe there's a reason to believe you'll be okay"

"Even when the dark comes crashing through,
When you need a friend to carry you,
And when you're broken on the ground,
You will be found"

"So let the sun come streaming in,
'Cause you'll reach up and you'll rise again,
Lift your head and look around,
You will be found"

4. Only Us

Soph San from Flickr

This song just really hits home when it comes to relationships. Sometimes people just need to hear these things.

"I don't need you to sell me on reasons to want you,
I don't need you to search for the proof that I should,
You don't have to convince me,
You don't have to be scared you're not enough,
'Cause what we've got going is good"

5. Words Fail

Out There Global from Flickr

The title says it all; sometimes words just fail.

"Nothing can make sense of all these things I've done"

"There's nothing I can say,
Except sometimes, you see everything you wanted,
And sometimes, you see everything you wish you had,
And it's right there, right there, right there,
In front of you,
And you want to believe it's true,
So you make it true,"

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
