After two agonizingly long months, I can finally count down on one hand the number of days it will be until I can finally see you, the love of my life. With an unexpected turn of events, I will be able to see you in five days instead of three months. With my upcoming formal for my sorority, you were able to book a flight and make your way down to me in the matter of days. These last five days have become the longest of my life and formed themselves into a giant blur of emotions as I run around trying to pass the time before your arrival.

Day 5:

It’s a Saturday and all I can do is text you about how excited I am to see you. I look around my room and realize that I don’t have any food that you like, so I start to make a list of everything that I need. I text you while you’re at work and ask you of things that you want. I’ve got to stock the shelves with everything possible so that you feel like you’re at home.

At the end of the day, we call each other and I go over my list again and again until you tell me that whatever I have is perfect. All you care about is being with me. All I care about is making sure you’re well fed.

Day 4:

Sunday has come and I’m distracted by classes. It helps the day go by a little faster, but I still text you in all caps that we will be reunited in four days. Formal is in five and I get so excited. I’ve got my dress all ready and I’ve planned out how I’m doing my hair. I start to tell you everything that you’re going to wear for formal and what to possibly bring for the four days you’re with me.

Once we call at the end of the day, I tell you that I picked up all the food that you could possibly want and a few extra things to munch on throughout the weekend. I start telling you of my plans of how I’m going to clean my room and do laundry before you get here so everything is perfect for your arrival. Of course, you don’t care what my room looks like, but I need everything to be in its place so that we can enjoy our time together.

Day 3:

Oh my goodness! Only three more days until we finally get to see each other. Until we finally get to be a real couple and show people how in love we truly are. This time, you’re the one that texts me that we have three days left and my heart stops. I get so excited that I feel like I’m going to cry. Of course, this is when I start to panic that nothing will be right for when you get here. Sure, it’s only Monday, but that just means I’ve got so much to do in such a little amount of time.

I text you all day about things that you want for the weekend, beverage wise. I just want us to have a great time on Saturday. It’s so stressful having to provide for you, but I got to do what I got to do. I know you’re not as stressed out as I am, but that’s just a girl’s way of caring. Everything must be perfect. I start doing my last minute things and preparing things. I tell everyone that you’re coming down and I swear they might punch me because I told them at least seven times in 15 minutes.

Day 2:

Right, It’s Tuesday. My stomach is already getting butterflies. Only two more days until I drive to the airport to pick you up. I feel like there is so much to do before you arrive, but I don’t know what to do. I just want you here. I want to be in your arms and tell you home much I love you. It’s all we talk about during the day; we see each other in two days.

Today just passed in a blur. We Skyped a lot during the day, talking about how excited we were and about what you should bring. I keep texting you about the weather and what you should bring, again. I clean my room, again. I organize my room, again. I check the crossed off items on the food list, again. I’ve got everything I need, I think. I start planning out our weekend: breakfast on Friday morning, chicken n’ waffles later at night, Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner on Saturday and a fancy dinner on Sunday. Everything we want to do goes down on a sticky note and taped to my desk. I’ve got my schedule; this will be the best trip ever! As the clock struck midnight, you interrupted me talking over Skype and yelled that there was only one day left until I would be in your arms. Yup, this will be the best trip ever.

Day 1:

I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Wednesday is the last full day of being apart and I can’t make it go by any faster. I try to act as normal as I can, but I’m too anxious and nervous to stay calm. I keep texting you, sorry, about how excited I am. Everyone avoids me too, because it’s all I can talk about. Some friends want to do things this weekend, but, I can’t. I tell them I’m all booked up, my boyfriend is coming into town!

I spent all my meals and cleaned my room one last time. There is this check list in my room that I crossed off at least five times as I try to pass time between now and Thursday night. Classes were boring and I didn’t pay attention. I didn’t really care to pay that much attention; all I wanted to do was text you and make time go by faster. It’s so unfair that I have to wait a little bit longer to see you. I’m not very patient, I know, but this time is a little worse. I want you here, right now, in my arms. The last few hours we have apart is pointless; just make them go away and get here already.

Finally, we sit down later at night and begin to pack! We go over your list at least three times and then one last time before bed. When the clock strikes midnight, I squeal! In less than 24 hours, I’ll be able to see you! Now, all that’s left, is counting down until I can leave for the airport!

Day 0:

It’s Thursday. The day has finally come. In just a matter of hours, I’ll be running into your arms at the Columbus Airport, bursting into tears. Classes drag on all day and I have no desire to pay attention to anything that is going on around me. Every last thought is on you because I will see you in less than 12 hours. Almost every hour consists of me asking you if you’ve got everything you need for the trip and how excited I am to see you. The count down of hours has begun.

Finally, the time has come for me to drive out to you. You’ve just texted me that you’re taking off from New York’s airport. I grab a cup of coffee, blast the radio and drive two hours to the airport. I park in the parking lot and send you a text that I’m here so you know when you turn your phone on. I walk into the lobby and wait anxiously for you to call me. I, thankfully, don’t have to wait long. At 10:25 P.M., I see your face on my screen and I answer immediately. You tell me that you’ve just landed and will see me in about ten minutes. We hang up after stating our love and I eagerly wait by the exit way for passengers.

Within the next few minutes, my stomach starts to get butterflies and I get goose bumps all over my arms and legs. Right then and there, I see you turn the corner. The largest smile covers my face once you come into view and only gets wider when you smile. Nothing could hold back my excitement as I squealed and ran to you, ignoring all the people around me. You and I are the only two people on this planet. I run into your arms and give you a kiss on your cheek as tears escape my eyes.

Finally, we’re together.

Ten Truths Every Honors Student Knows

One of the main reasons I came to Salem State was I was offered a spot in the honors program. While it offered many benefits, scholarships and priority registration to name a few, what drew me in was the strong sense of community and close knit friendships many found. I am glad to say that that I did find these things, and so much more. I found a home made up of some of the most brilliant and most unique people I have ever met. Being in an honors program creates a college experience unlike any other and creates some universal truths that really only an honors student can fully understand.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?
