5 Crafts To Make Your Room Your Own

Finally something to do on those rainy summer days

Nobody loves to live in a dorm room. They're small, they're generic, they're bland, and with so many regulations on what you can do to the room it is hard to make it feel like home. Here are some easy crafts to make this summer so that your room can feel a little more like your room and a little less like the school's property.

1. Area Rugs

All dorm rooms have some sort of generic, boring carpeting, so add some color and personality to the room by making one of these easy rag rugs! They're great because you can make it however big or small, in whatever size, and whatever color you need. These rugs are so easy to make that you can sit and watch a movie or your latest netflix binge show and work away!

2. Picture Frames

Everyone loves to capture memories with pictures, but rather than keeping them on your phone to look at every so often, print them out and have some fun decorating picture frames for them! Michaels and many other stores sell plain simple frames that are just waiting to get some fun flare from you! Some decorating options are:

-Taping lace or a paper doily down then painting on top of them and once you remove the lace you have a pretty laced pattern

-Using some Mod Podge and glitter (just be sure to put several coats of Mod Podge on after as well to seal the glitter on)

-Getting some fun fake flowers (Amazon has a wide variety that come in large quantities if needed) and using a hot glue gun

3. Monograms

I LOVE monograms because theres nothing that really makes a place feel like it's yours than by putting your name on it! There are so many fun ways to incorporate a monogram into your room. The easiest is to buy some pre-cut wood letters from any craft store or online in the font you like the most and decorate them however you'd like (see picture frames for decorating ideas). But if you're more of a tapestry kind of person then I suggest buying a large piece of fabric in the size and pattern you like and some fabric paint to go along with it. Just be sure the fabric is hemmed, or if you're up for it, hem it yourself! Then using a pen that has non-permanent ink trace out your name or monogram to then paint in with the fabric paint! This is also a cute way to make your own tapestry if you don't want the monogram part either

4. Cork And/Or Chalk Board Organizers

These are super easy super fun ways to add something to your walls. You can paint on them, put banners on them, glue whatever cute decorations you want to them, and then when you're all done they're functional too! I made these and it only took me about 45 minutes (I got all materials at Michaels).

5) Furniture Skirts

Like many people I'm very guilty of shoving the mess in my room under my bed or side tables, but without a skirt on the bed or side table the mess is still very much in sight. Easiest fix is to make skirts, this may be a little bit more of a project but trust me it is worth all the work! There are tons of tutorials online to make a bed skirt (to make one for a bedside table adapt the same idea but create a longer skirt), but I think this is the best one. I got my fabric and my trim from Walmart but many other places sell the items necessary for good prices.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
