I HATED country music growing up. Everyone at school listened to it and I thought for the longest time it just had no substance. The only message I thought it sent out was to find hot girls and get them to ride in various vehicles. Boy, was I WRONG though! Thanks to my sister and a weird desire to meet country gentlemen I am now obsessed with country music and fully aware of the many practical messages it has to offer.
1. Humble and Kind - Tim McGraw
"Visit grandpa every chance that you can
It won't be wasted time."
"Don't hold a grudge or a chip and here's why:
Bitterness keeps you from flyin'
Always stay humble and kind."
2. From the Ground Up - Dan + Shay
"This life will go by
In the blink of an eye
But I wouldn't wanna spend it without you by my side
The clouds are gonna roll
The earth's gonna shake
But I'll be your shelter through the wind and the rain.
And we'll build this love from the ground up."
Love harder and live to find happiness in the journey.
3. Ain't Worth The Whiskey - Cole Swindell
"I don't care that you done me wrong
'Cause I've already moved on
I don't care what his name is
Girl, it is what it is."
Don't waste time worrying about the wrong things and the wrong people.
4. Break Up In a Small Town - Sam Hunt
"But there's only so many streets, so many lights
I swear it's like I can't even leave my house
I should've known all along
You gotta move or move on."
Just don't date people in small towns.
5. Livin' The Dream - Drake White
"Now, ain’t we livin’ the dream
Big blue sky, green, green grass
Ain’t doin’ half bad for a half full glass."
Appreciate all that you have knowing that you're giving your all.
I won't say every country song has a great message or even that the majority do but I can say with certainty that there are some real gems in this genre. I lived the country life all summer and thanks to all these songs my expectations for how my life will go are through the roof. 10/10 would recommend giving it a chance if you havent!
Happy listening Ya'll!
