With finals week coming to an end and bright sunny days on the horizon, summer break is right around the corner. While we all look forward to the rest and relaxation, there are still plenty of ways to make the most out of this time... that is just not trying to find a part-time job that pays minimum wage. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Here are a few ways that you can navigate your impending summer vacation!

1. Learn a new language!

With the many resources available online, it is easier than ever to pick up a new language! Ever wanted to be fluent in Spanish or read Chinese? Maybe this is the summer to make that dream a reality!

2. Go on a really cool spontaneous trip with a group of friends!

Sometimes you just got to get a group together and take a train somewhere with little planning. Trust me, it is a lot more fun than it sounds.

3. Go somewhere a little outside of your comfort zone by yourself!

Ever wanted to go somewhere but can never get a group to go with you? Why not make this summer the first time when you step out of your comfort zone and take a really cool trip by yourself?

4. Set a reading goal!

Everyone wants to read more, so maybe this summer is the time for you to really tackle that growing pile of unread books on your bookshelf. Set a reading goal for yourself to really challenge yourself with the number of books you can read over the summer.

5. Do some writing!

I love writing, but I sometimes struggle to find time during the school year to write for my own personal gain. Why not take advantage of the lack of homework and tackle the big writing project you have been putting off?

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
