Many people like to laugh at conspiracy theorists and call them crazy until the theories actually turn out to be true. Of course quite a few of them involve the good old United States government. Me writing this list or even you viewing this list will probably put us on a watch list by the CIA.

1. MK-ULTRA

Through the 1950s to the 1970s the CIA had a mind control study that they were using to make a “truth serum” that they could use on communist spies. They gave test subjects drugs, such as LSD, without consent or even tortured. It is safe to say that people have a good reason to be weary of the CIA.

2. Operation Mockingbird

This also happened in the 1950s to the 1970s, the CIA paid big time media outlets like Time, The Washington Post, The New York Times, CBS and other various networks to publish propaganda. The CIA also funded at least one movie, which we all have probably seen, “Animal Farm” by George Orwell. These activities were finally exposed by the Church Committee in 1975. Again the CIA being shady.

3. Asbestos

From 1930 to 1960 many manufactures knew that there was a link between asbestos and many different ailments. They tried to hide findings that it could lead to respiratory diseases or cancer, just so they could avoid being prosecuted for it. Workers tried to start suing these companies as far back as 1932, although there was not published work correlating the asbestos with cancer until 1962.

4. The Iran-Contra Affair

In 1985-86 government officials were authorized to trade weapons with the Israeli government by the White House. They were trading the weapons in exchange for the U.S. hostages being held in Iran. Congress uncovered this plan in 1987 and made it known to the public.

5. Operation Snow White

In the 1970s, the Church of Scientology went through with the largest government infiltration in United States history. They managed to steal hundreds of documents containing scrutiny against the church. They managed to infiltrate over 136 organizations including the IRS and foreign embassies.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
