For some, the minute it became October 1st was the minute Halloween began. I’m included in that some. Halloween is such a fun and loving holiday; it’s hard not to get into all the festivities that revolve around it! Pumpkin picking, pumpkin carving, pumpkin spice lattes...are you tired of pumpkins yet? One of the many most enjoyable activities to get prepared for Halloween is, of course, Halloween movies. There’s an endless amount of Halloween classics, but these 5 are true must-sees.

1. "The Nightmare Before Christmas"

A cult favorite and a personal favorite of mine, "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is basically the epitome of Halloween. Jack Skellington, Pumpkin King of Halloweentown, gets bored of Halloween and finds a new holiday: Christmas. Watching the citizens of Halloweentown discover a whole new realm of Christmas is entertaining, and it makes a great story.

2. "Corpse Bride"

This is another one of Tim Burton’s classics that’s perfect for a Halloween night. "Corpse Bride" is perfect because not only does it have the eeriness that any Halloween movie has, but it also has a romantic plot for all the romance lovers. Soon-to-be husband to Victoria, Victor, finds himself conflicted when he meets a literal corpse bride who has fallen for him since the moment she laid eyes on him.

3. "Coraline"

I can remember sitting in the movie theater shaking in my seat while watching "Coraline". Yes, it is a cartoon, but don’t underestimate the creepiness this animation brings. It is kid-friendly, but at the same time, it does have a fright factor, which is really perfect for anybody looking for a scare on Halloween.

4. "Casper"

"Casper" will go down in history as the Halloween movie. Who could forget Casper the Friendly Ghost? Casper peacefully haunts a small house and becomes close with the girl living there. The movie centers around their relationships and the complications that come from Casper being a ghost and Casper’s obnoxious ghost uncles who cause havoc whenever possible. This movie is a good-hearted, family-friendly movie perfect for the holiday.

5. "Hocus Pocus"

The three witches we all know and love: Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson. These ladies make "Hocus Pocus" comical and extremely entertaining, while of course having everything spooky included as well. A perfect Disney movie to watch on Halloween Day.

I recommend signing into Netflix, getting cozy underneath a warm blanket, drinking a hot pumpkin spice latte, and bingeing on your favorite Halloween movies to get you ready for the day we’ve all been waiting for!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
