We learn a lot at college and universities, teaching various subjects like math, history, science, literature, etc. However, there are some things in college that you don't learn. Being a college student, there are tons of moments where I thought, "they should really have a class to teach you this stuff." Here are some:
1) "Dieting & Fitness Class When Going To College" Class: The Freshman 15 is real. When I first arrived to college, the dining hall seemed promising. They had pizza, french fries, burgers, and then had salad, vegetables, and healthy grains. Of course I went for the pizza. They do have fitness classes here, but I think they should be more accessible to students - they fill up way too quick!
2) "Laundry, Sewing, Cooking... Basically A Home Economics" class: Along with arriving to college, I had no idea how to cook, clean, and everything else in between. I couldn't even sew on a button (still don't know how to). At home, dinner was always served to me by someone else.
3) "Overcoming societal norms" Class: High school was a time for stereotypes. Often, when people come to college, they try breaking out of those stigmas. It is difficult for any student to be themselves when society tells them something different. It's quite important to show people to expand horizons and be someone you want to be.
4) "Rejection" Class: There are classes on how to land your perfect job, but never how to deal with the rejection of others. With rejection coming from many things - jobs, sororities, fraternities, acapella/theatre try-outs, sports, and so on - there needs to be a way people can turn their rejection into a happier, inspirational way.
5) "How To Talk To Someone" Class: Not just public speaking, but actually having a normal conversation with someone. There's etiquette about looking down at your phone during a conversation or the right time to laugh or cry. Some people just don't understand how to talk or what to talk about (like me).
