Final exams are not the only things approaching as the days pass. The weather is getting colder and people are starting to string lights over tree corpses which can only mean that Christmas is approaching fast. Personally, Christmas is one of my favorite times of year; it is just filled with so much cheer and good will. I absolutely adore Christmas and when it is around the corner, you know that the Christmas specials are not far behind. As Santa Claus is checking his list for the second time, let's take a look at five timeless Christmas specials.
1. How the Grinch Stole Christmas
This Dr. Seuss classic is sure to put a smile on even the grinchiest grinch in existence. Set in the colorful and creative world we know and love, this story was always fun to watch on TV. Following the Grinch as he decides to stop Christmas from coming to Who-Ville, the viewers are treated to a heart-warming story with fun animation and an equally fun song. I can remember trying to hit the song's low note as I sat with my parents, all of us equally as excited to see the special come on TV. If you are a fan of Dr. Seuss, this is one special you simply cannot miss.
2. Frosty the Snowman
For me, Frosty the Snowman was a complete holiday classic. It had a sense of humor that I appreciated back then and I still find amusing today. There is something comfortable about the animation and backdrops; it reminds me of a Christmas card coming to life. This story is always fun to hear and watch unfold on the screen. It has a warm and fuzzy feel to it, even almost making me cry when I was younger. I absolutely adore this movie and I will be humming the song all Christmas season.
3. Santa Claus is Coming to Town
This movie holds a special spot in my heart and in my mothers. We both watched Santa Claus is Coming to Town as I was growing up and fell in love with the songs as well as the animation. To this day, we will quote lines from this movie because of how quirky it can be at times. Honestly, this movie can be funny in ways it wasn't trying to be at all. This movie telling the origins of Santa Claus is one you definitely need to watch if you want to see a fun and quirky Christmas movie with that old-timey feel to it.
4. A Charlie Brown Christmas
How could I not put this classic on the list? Charlie Brown has been a big part of a lot of childhoods and this special is one of its televised programs. This special has a wonderful atmosphere and makes its viewer just feel warm and comfortable as they watch it. Not only that, but it just has a wonderful message about finding the worth and beauty in the little things, realizing that greatness and wonder is able to come from anywhere and take any form. This special is always wonderful to watch and definitely will make your heart feel lighter this holiday season.
5. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
To be honest, this one is probably one of my personal favorites; I always loved animals growing up so a movie focused on one was absolute genius in my opinion. This film always had a wonderful feel to it as I grew up. I loved the songs, adored the characters, and enjoyed the story. Watching the classic tale of a reindeer with a shining red nose come to life with its own quirks and humor was always a delight. This movie took a story and made it its own thing, created a world that one associates immediately with Christmas and the holidays. It is absolutely wonderful and you should definitely give it a watch.
