5 Christmas Movies To Get You In The Holiday Spirit

It's that time of year again!

The holiday season (and Christmas especially) hold many different values and traditions for many different families. Ever since I was little, gathering around the T.V. cozied up with big blankets and a mug of hot chocolate watching a Christmas movie has always been a favorite tradition of mine. In honor of that, here are five Christmas movies I recommend you watch to put yourself in the holiday spirit!

1. How The Grinch Stole Christmas

Who could not love this movie?(and not the Jim Carrey version) If this doesn’t give you all the Christmas feels, I’m not sure what will. A man (or green creature for that matter) learns the true meaning of Christmas. Giving is better than to receive and the Grinch most certainly understands this by the end of the film. Plus, have you seen how cute Max is?

2. Elf

The silliness and charm of this movie is almost too much to bear. For an elf that doesn’t fit in, he journeys to find his real father to find out more about who he is and where his roots are. When he realizes his family has absolutely no holiday cheer, he decides that he must show them why Christmas is so magical. By the end of the movie, he saves Christmas and finally finds a place where he belongs. And any movie Will Ferrell is funny. Don’t forget to chow down on some “candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup” while watching, Buddy would want you to!

3.The Polar Express

Another movie about believing in Santa and having faith in Christmas, The Polar Express is a classic. The young boy embarks on a magical journey on Christmas Eve, with many unexpected stops, singing waiters, and lots of hot chocolate. He not only learns to believe again when he meets Santa Claus and finds the bell from the sleigh, but he learns about friendship and bravery as well.

4.Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer

Another story of a boy, or in this case a reindeer, who just can’t seem to fit in. Rudolph was born with a blinking red nose, and all of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names. And, they wouldn’t let him join in any reindeer games (how rude!) He sets off with an elf who dreams of becoming a dentist, which is frowned upon by the others elves. Together they try and discover who they truly are. And by the end, Rudolph leads Santa’s sleigh!!

5.Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town

The last movie I recommend to watch before the big day is Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town. This movie describes how the jolly old man in red came to be. An orphan is delivered to Tanta Kringle and her group of toymakers to the King (elves). While under the rule of an unfair man, the story tells of how Kris Kringle came up with the idea of delivering toys, how he fell in love with Mrs. C, and started the Christmas traditions we follow today. A perfect line up of 5 great movies to make sure you’re ready for all the magic the holiday season has to offer. Merry Christmas!

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
