A good story never gets old, especially a classic children's tale. When I was a kid, these classic stories resonated with me either because I related to them or because they were super colorful and could be read in a silly voice. Now that I'm college, I get a very different meaning from these books. I am not ashamed to admit that they still bring me the same joy that they did when I was six, but now they relate to my life in a completely new way. Here are five of my favorite books from when I was a kid that perfectly describe life as a college student:
1. "The Very Hungry Caterpillar"
Much like the very hungry caterpillar, college students just can’t stop eating. No amount of dining commons food could ever be nutritious enough to fill us up. Even just an hour after eating, I am already ordering a full Domino's pizza online.
2. "The Cat in the Hat"
Dorm rooms can get slightly messy, almost as if some imaginary animal ran through messing up everything. But every college student knows, you have to magically clean it all up before your parents come and visit.
3. "The Little Engine That Could"
As the year draws to a close, “I think I can” becomes the mantra of every student trying to make their way through finals. Each and every one of us is a little engine trying to make it up the hill to a high GPA.
4. "Where the Wild Things Are"
Max is the symbol for every girl who has every tried to make her way into a fraternity house. She is trying to have a fun, playful time, and she is surrounded by hairy beasts also trying to do so. Eventually, she becomes “Queen of the Frat Boys” and safely makes her way home to a drunk meal.
5. "Alexander, and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day"
After a glorious weekend spent not doing homework, relaxing with friends and watching Netflix, Mondays come like a slap in the face, especially with an 8:00 a.m. class. It’s safe to say that Monday is a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.
