People who know me well know that I am a huge reader, and I am always trying to recommend my favorite books to my friends. Here is a list of five of the ones that I think every college girl needs to read.
1. Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
Honestly I'm not sure what you're doing if you haven't read this series by now. No matter how old I get, these books will always be some of my favorites. I actually have a couple of the books in my room at school right now because when I have a bad day, the magical world of Harry Potter helps me escape from reality for just a little while. It's never too late to start these books, so if you're a college girl and haven't read them you need to get on it!
2. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
This book might actually be one of my favorites of all time just because I think it is so relatable. The story follows Cath, a girl who is going off to college for her freshman year, but also has a secret internet life where she writes fanfiction about a series that has many similarities to Harry Potter. Although that might not be the most relatable part, what is relatable is that she is having a hard time adjusting to college life. She at first eats alone in her room every day and has trouble making friends, so the book follows her figuring out her new life and her trying to make new friends. She even meets a great guy in the process who you will be wishing was your boyfriend by the end of the book.
3. All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
Of course I need to throw in a sad book that will leave you thinking for awhile after you finish it. This book follows two teenagers named Theodore Finch and Violet Markey who are both struggling. Finch is constantly thinking about death and what it would be like to die, and Violet cannot get over the death of her sister in a car accident that happened a couple years previously. These two meet and have to work on a geography project together where they go all around their little town in Indiana, and eventually they fall in love. I won't spoil it, but everything comes crashing down by the end of the book, leaving you a sobbing mess.
4. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
This is one of those books that will always be relevant to you years later that packs such a powerful punch in just a tiny book. The story follows Charlie trying to figure out his life all while being a wallflower, or someone who just sits back and observes, but doesn't actually do anything. You see him go through all of the emotions and you can't help but relate to some of the things he says. Also you can't forget about the infamous "we are infinite" scene of him riding in the back of a pickup truck through the Fort Pitt tunnel. I think this book is also really special to me at least because it takes place in my hometown of Pittsburgh.
5. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
One of my favorite genres of books are psychological thrillers, so I had to include one of my favorites. If you haven't read this or seen the movie already, I'm not sure what you're waiting for because the plot is absolutely genius. This book follows Nick and Amy Dunne, who are about to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary. On the day of their anniversary though, Amy mysteriously disappears. All fingers are being pointed at Nick because some people knew that their marriage wasnt' picture perfect, but he swears he did not kill his wife. That's all I'm going to say because the less you know about the plot of this book, the better it will be.
