It's that time of year again, when students of all ages are getting ready to head back to school. If you're like me, you probably feel like the summer wasn't anywhere long enough, and you can't believe that summer is already ending. And while you're probably feeling a lot of things (nervousness, excitement, anxiety) a little encouragement from God never hurt me personally. Here are seven encouraging Bible Verses that might help you start the school year.
1. Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
I interpret this verse not to mean that we shouldn't ever be afraid. I think it means that we should not let our fears stop us from pursing our passions. If you have been wanting to join a new club, take on a challenging class, or start a sport, this is the year to do it!
2. 1 Corinthians 10:31 "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."
When things are tough, it's easy to fall back and pray for things to get better. However, we must be equally as proactive in prayer when things are going well. Don't forget to step back and realize how amazing everything in your life is, even when you are going through a rough patch.
3. Ecclesiastes 12:1-3 "Don't let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor Him in your youth before you grow old and say, 'Life is not pleasant anymore.' Remember Him before the light of the sun, moon, and stars is dim to your old eyes, and rain clouds continually darken your sky."
This verse reminds us that our youth is one of the greatest times of our lives. Though sometimes we might not be able to see it behind piles of tests, papers, and homework, we should be thankful for our health and these opportunities.
4. Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Once again, I don't think that this verse means to never be fearful or have anxiety. I think it means to fall back on the old phrase "everything happens for a reason." For example, your roommate pulling out of living with you would definitely strike some anxiety in your heart- however, God may be setting you up to meet the woman who will be the maid of honor in your wedding! Have faith that minor setbacks are for the greater good.
5. Isaiah 30:21 “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
If you feel a change needs to be made in your life, be it something minor like a hair color change or something major like an adjusted or double major, have faith in your gut feeling. God might be setting you up for the next big adventure in your life.
