5 Best Things About Summer Ending

The end of summer is always a bit bittersweet. Especially when it means flying across the country to get back to school. But there are quite a few positives to summer break ending. And they aren’t all about school starting again, even though that is definitely something to be excited about. Without further ado, here are the five best things about summer coming to an end.

1. Fall is coming

I love fall! It’s tied with winter for my favorite season. With the leaves changing and heat and humidity dropping, there really isn’t anything better. Plus, it’s finally cool enough outside to drink hot chocolate basically all the time and not have anyone look at you like you’re crazy. There’s also no reason not to wear boots all the time. And boots are the greatest. Also, Halloween and Thanksgiving are coming! So really, what could be better than fall?

2. Back to school

This might sound kind of weird, but I’m actually really excited to get back to school. The beginning of a new semester is always super exciting. Not only do you have a bunch of new classes and new professors, but it’s a really great time to make some new friends. This is a great opportunity to get yourself organized not only in terms of academics, but in general. Take some time to figure out where to put everything away so that you have a clear and organized space.

3. Seeing your friends again

Really, maybe the best thing about going back to school is that you’re back with all of your friends again and you won’t have to be apart for this long again until next summer. Especially when your friends are spread out all over the country (and maybe all over the world,) living in such close proximity is great.

4. (Surprisingly,) unpacking

The start of a new school year means that unpacking and unpacking means reorganizing. And nine out of ten times, reorganizing is a great idea. So get rid of clothing you don’t wear or anything that you own but have never used. Honestly, you probably won’t have the motivation to do this again until you pack up at the end of the year, so now’s the best time for that.

5. Summer hiatus is over

I always love the fall premieres of all of my television shows. And summer ending means that all of my shows are coming back. Trust me, there are a lot of shows. On the plus side, most of the time they start back up in September, but a few won’t be back until October. And then there are the ones that won’t be back until after January because they’re only half season shows. Regardless, the summer hiatus is almost over and I definitely can’t wait for that.

I know the end of summer sucks, but there are definitely a few things that make it better. Look on the bright side, fall weather and back to school time are right around the corner. And who wouldn’t be excited to see their friends after months of texting and the occasional Snapchat or video call. So get excited because there’s a lot of fun coming your way.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
